In his latest couture collection, Jean Paul Gaultier focused on paying an homage to the late singer Amy Winehouse, who tragically lost her life in July last year, thus joining the 27 Club. Jean Gaultier looked at Amy as an icon with a different style, one that captured a lot of attention through vibrant colors and a lots of a vintage vibes, a perfect juxtaposition of contemporary and modern.
The collection who revolved on statement vividly colored pieces was accentuated, in an attempt to captured the essence of Amy Winehouse style, through her signature ultrathick cat-eyeliner as well as beehive hairstyle. The models wore colorful wigs that featured Amy’s trademark hairstylesfrom swirl updos to her beehive half up/half down dos.
Models wearing an array of ample detailed outfits strutted their perfect figures on the catwalk on the late singer’s music which was played in the background, singles such as “No, no, no,” “A taste of you”, “Stronger than me” and her most popular hit “Rehab”.

The show which exuded energy was filled with signature Gaultier details such as tweaked trenches, stylish corsetry and innovative masculine inspired suits. The dresses displayed in the show featured diverse details, taking you from vintage little black dresses to contemporary ultra sophisticated hourglass shaped dresses that never go by unnoticed. Jean Paul Gaultier has got his fans used to superb tailoring and these details are seen at their finest as the shapes and coloration of the collection accentuates every inch of the haute-couture ensembles.
Midi dresses, masculine inspired suits, mini skirts paired with corset tops, oversized baseball jacket paired with slit-front silk skirt and carefully detailed corsets worn with veils by the models were the main items that attracted the attention. The collection alternated softness with boldness, resulting a very chic collection infused with Ms. Winehouse’s eccentric style. Black and white outfits were met by red, blue, vivacious purple, yellow, pink, green and orange, giving the collection a fresh vibe, perfect for powerful women who love to play with color and unique fashion pieces.
